NRC – National Register of Citizens!

Friends, these days the discussion about NRC Full Form ‘The National Register of Citizenship’ is in full swing in India. Protests have been held in many states of India regarding NRC Hindi. Firstly the NRC has been implemented in the state of Assam which was started in the year 2013.

 National Register of Citizens

The Home Minister of India,

Amit Shah has clearly stated in the Rajya Sabha during the winter session that the illegal occupants in India will be identified for which the NRC will be implemented in all states of India and all religions and sects of India People of will be included in it.

The names of about 40.07 lakh people have not been included in the final draft of the Government of Assam in the state of Assam in July 2018. In Assam, 3.29 crore people applied to join the NRC and on the final list, only 2.89 crore people have been included in the NRC. Due to which, there has been a debate in the entire country from Parliament to the street about NRC.

After continuous NRC process, on 31 August 2019, the interim revised data of the citizens of the state of Assam came out, in which about 19,6657 people have been declared as illegal citizens.

What is NRC?

The NRC’s fullform is the ‘National Register of Citizens’. NRC is called ‘National Citizen Register’ in Hindi.

The NRC is first implemented in the state of Assam. It was started in the year 2013 by order of the Supreme Court. For this, I would like to share with you some key points so that you can understand more clearly why the state of Assam was elected to the NRC.

Under the NRC, a register of all the people living in India is prepared, which we call the National Register of Citizens.

The NRC was first prepared after the census of India in 1951 after the independence of India and the Citizenship Act 1955 was enacted which was amended in the year 2003.

After the NRC came into force, all those Indians in Assam have been included, which shows the documents related to living in India before 25 March 1971 as per the government guidelines.

The NRC is mainly applied in those states from where citizens of other countries secretly enter through the state borders of India. Through this NRC, information about all those people is obtained and NRC report is made and from this it becomes known who is Indian and who is not Indian. This NRC report also starts the process of sending all those illegal people back to their country.

Main Points of NRC Assam Agreement

The agreement was signed between the Government of India and the State of Assam on 15 August 1985 and also included the All Assam Students Union, other Assam organizations.

This nrc assam agreement provided citizenship of India to all the people who came to Assam between the years 1961 to 1971 (before Bangladesh was formed) at the time of becoming East Pakistan but were denied franchise.

Special economic package was provided for the development of the state of Assam.

Under this agreement, all those Hindus, Muslims and other religions who entered the nrc assam after 24 March 1971 were to be identified and the target was to be sent back from the state of Assam after identifying them.

The voter list was to be revised according to the Assam Accord.

People belonging to the Assamese language should be promoted socially and culturally and security and special laws were also important to be made when they were identified.

Who will get Assam citizenship if they are in NRC assam?

The most important question is that due to the manner in which about 2 million people have been declared illegal in the state of Assam, this dispute has increased further.

According to the order of the Supreme Court, if any nrc is in assam, the citizen of Assam has proof of living before 25 March 1971 or their ancestors have names in the voter list before the given date. Only then will you get citizenship of India or you will be excluded from the citizenship list.

It is also true that after 1951 the National Civil Register (NRC) was not updated yet while the decision of nrc assam was taken in 2005 but illegal entry into Assam before 25 March 1971 under Assam Accord. It became a cause of controversy for adding the names of the people made in the National Register of Citizens and the matter had reached before the Supreme Court.

Which the Supreme Court stated clearly in the year 2013 that those who entered before 25 March 1971 will be excluded from this NRC list.

Now the question is that if the NRC formula of Assam State is to be considered for the whole of India, then what kind of documents people have to submit. To understand this, we have to look at two types of list, which are placed in List A and List B.

The first list A has to submit the documents before 25 March 1971, if you do not have any of these, then you have to submit the documents related to you and your ancestor in List B, which you do not have.
